2008 Home Decor Color Trends

I have been researching what are the new 2008 home decor color trends, and here are roughly the main groups/themes of colors for 2008:

>>Green/eco-friendly looking colors: As the trend of living green arises, needs for greener materials rise as well. Similarly faux finishes that look like those lifestyle trends become popular as well. The finishes will look hand-made and un-processed (i.e. no dying nor bleaching). Texture is key, especially nature-like textures. In color terms, you are looking at earth tone, as well as colors that are in the blue & green color group as they represent sky/ocean and greeneries.

>>Pantone suggests: “Wellspring: Inspired by the water that literally supports and sustains life.”

  • Blue Iris 18-3943
  • Kiwi16-0235

>>Cultural influences: As globalization is on the rise, we are more aware of other cultures as well. From my personal observations, zen-style & spa-style lifestyles are super in now, as they are the new leading trends in baths designs. These lifestyle inspired color palettes are usually inspired by Chinese & India cultures.

>>Pantone suggests: “Chinoiserie: Suggesting the Chinese tradition, this palette is a blend of the graceful shapes and charming motifs”

  • Chinese Violet 18-3418
  • Muted Lime 14-0636

>>Blue is the new black. Not just any blue, it’s blue iris by pantone.(It looks like this iris blue pantone)\

>>Warmer metallics. In 2007 metallics are really hot, as we call see in home decor, and even on our purses & accessories. In 2008, the colors become warmer. Think JLo tan.

>>Pantone suggests: “Nuances:Newly nuanced neutrals provide a visual pathway withy unexpected and intriguing combinations”.

  • Antique Bronze 17-1028

  • Baroque Rose 18-1634

I have definitely noticed a trend toward greens and earthtones this year. I think the state of the world has made people long for simpler, more earthy things.

    Hey Mary

Definitely. The whole green and eco lifestyle trends have made a significant impacts on our color schemes. I recently went to the Benjamin Moore Color Trend 2010 workshop, they still list earth tones as one of the main trends in 2010, as well as more influences from globalizations.

    Thanks again for commenting!

    Cheers,
    Cindy
