Position Summary:

This is a great opportunity to learn how to style interiors and the world of buying furniture and props, in additions to small business ownership and entrepreneurship. Additionally, you will learn about creative marketing on a budget, trend research, as well as business and product development.

The Styling Intern’s work span across a variety of weekly responsibilities, including and not limited to front and back studio admin tasks, facilities upkeep, stock/inventory maintenance, supportive roles to supervisors, staging installation prep and breakdown, shipping retail items and other projects as requested.

Duties:
Organizing, labeling, cleaning and maintaining inventory in the warehouse
Learn how to handle props, install artwork, style props and furnishing
Some administrative tasks
Warehouse and furniture organization
Assist Associates and Lead Stylist on home staging projects
Learn how to pack the inventory properly and prep for jobs
Learn how to touch up damaged floors and furniture
Learn how to accessorize and style interiors

Depending on the week, we may be live staging, wrapping projects or prepping in the warehouse, so every shift may be very different!

Expectations:
MUST BE A CURRENT STUDENT in good standing with the school
You must be able to work in teams or on your own

Interests in prop styling, interior styling, home staging or similar fields
High level of accuracy, attention to detail and ability to prioritize multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment
Basic construction skills in installing artwork, etc preferred
Ability to travel to our warehouse in an industrial area (limited public transportation) and to our job sites (may or may not have public transportation access)

Required Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:

Must be curious and love to learn, and embrace challenges. Have an ability to work in an interrupt-driven environment in total support of Senior Associate, Studio Coordinator and General Manager.

Comfortable speaking with vendors, freelancers and clients on the phone or in person for greeting and answering requests, questions regarding our services. Superior and professional service to guests and team members is expected and required.

It is expected for every employee to be able to communicate efficiently and effective. Our company holds an open door policy that allows employees to share concerns and suggestions freely and professionally. The Associate should exhibit efficient time management practices and perform with a high degree of accuracy in order to succeed in this position. All processes in existence must be followed as set forth in the operations manual. Basic software skills include Microsoft: Outlook, Word, PowerPoint and Excel is required.

With the nature of the work, the Associate must be organized with a sharp eye for details to be successful in the position. The candidate must be able to travel to our warehouse in South San Francisco.

This job can be physical so candidate must be willing and able to lift 50 lbs. It is ideal the candidate is able to adapt to fast paced and high pressure environment. Be able to collaborate in team environment is a must. Can take performance feedback without feeling defensive, victimized or taking it personally.

Required Education/Experience:

High school diploma or equivalent preferred.

Expected Hours:

2 days per week. Additional hours or weekends will be discussed. We are very respectful of our staff’s time, despite how crazy real estate market can be. We rarely ask staff to work weekends or overtime, but it can happen. We will try to give notice as soon as we find out from client.

Compensation

During training (first 30 days) $12.50/hour. Thereafter $13-$14.50/hour.

Job Purpose Summary:

To maintain internal (working with vendors and subcontractors, scheduling) and external relationships (retain and grow customer relationships, customer service, attend periodic networking events and scheduling events).

Essential responsibilities:

-Works with General Manager to develop a system for follow up and follow through for projects and prospecting

-Develop new client sources: attend periodic networking events, research new sources of business

-Client maintenance: work with General Manager on developing weekly and monthly marketing tasks such as phone calls, monthly newsletter, etc. Communicate with clients during and after projects.

-Execute marketing campaigns

-Problem solve for clients and vendors if needed

-Maintain good and develop new relationships with vendors (such as movers) and freelancers (our stylists)

-Project management: scheduling movers and stylists for projects, coordinating with Prop Master for project wrap and packs

-Basic event planning: book speaking engagements, plan educational events

-Some admin and organization around the office

Accountability/ duties:

The success of the position is determined by growth of the client base.

Job Description

Job Title: Prop Master

Department/Location of job: Creative/ South San Francisco, CA 94080

Position reports to: General Manager

Job purpose summery: Maintain, overturn and research inventory, establish and maintain inventorying system, works with General Manager to determine buying and overall styling directions

Essential Responsibilities and Accountabilities/ Duties:
-Works with General Manager to execute creative directions: research vendors, find new vendors that fit our creative directions and budget requirements, submit requests for purchases, posting extra and retired inventory on Craig’s List for sale
-Works with Relationship Manager for scheduling
-Maintain inventory: fix and refinish existing inventory, making sure all parts are functioning and the inventory is ready to go, organize warehouse, create and maintain a simple system to keep track of inventory
-Wrap and pack inventory for staging projects
-Break down properties, wrap and pack and works with movers to return everything to the warehouse

The success of the position is evaluated based on:
-the decrease of “dead” inventory
-readiness of inventory/ support for stylists on installations (for example, it is very time consuming to fix mistakes like having screws missing on the table legs while we are on job site or forgot to pack toolbox for projects)
-how easy it is for stylists to “shop” the inventory to prep for jobs

Dimensions/Territory/Scope:
-With staff: we are a very small, boutique staging firm, so the primary staff are General Manager (whom you will work with to determine our inventory buying direction), Relationship Manager (who is in charge of scheduling) and stylists (who are independent contractors and generally will be in touch regardless to specific inventory questions or feedbacks from installations).
-Customer: generally will not be with customers long significant periods of time. May run into customer during de-installation, but very brief encounters
-Movers: we subcontract movers, which you will be dealing with for project installations & de-installations
-Vendors: for example furniture vendors or sometimes we may rent trucks

Required experiences
Ability to lift 50+ lbs
Able to travel to our South San Francisco warehouse and to our job sites (mostly in San Mateo and San Francisco counties)
Good driving record (you may need to drive rental trucks from time to time, as well as driving yourself /carpool to job sites)
Able to work independently in the warehouse alone for entire shift (9am-5pm) without supervision.
SUPER organized, able to organize inventory in our almost 6,000 square feet warehouse
Has a sense of style and design is highly desired since you will be participating in buying decisions of inventory.
Able to systematize our inventory so they are easy to shop and tracked.
Microsoft Word and web research skills and basic phone skills
Education: High school/GED

Hours and Pay Range: 3-4 days per week. Setting your own hours is ok as long as General Manager has approved it. Pay depends on experiences. There’s no benefits for this part time position.
